We Made Paper!

Hello blogging world since last term we had been making paper to sell at our Celebration day/ Gala day. We have also doing this to reduce the use of cutting down trees to make new paper, instead you can recycle the paper you used. With the paper we are making Christmas cards. Over this period of time I have learnt how to make paper and why this problem of the trees is so bad now since 5 years ago. Hauraki is making Tote bag and Waitemata is making soap (They are the two other classes in Te Waka Ako)

If you were wondering how to make paper heres how.
Materials
  • Old clothes/ A art shirt
  •   Deckle/ Mould/ Screen (Paper making set)
  • Hot water
  • Bucket
  • Potato masher/ egg beater
  • A big container
  • Scissors  (If wanted)
  • Used paper
  • Cloth
  • Sponge (If wanted)
Firstly rip some used paper into a bucket it needs to be nearly full.
After you finish ripping, place some hot water in the bucket and wait overnight, when you leave it over night it should turn into pulp.
Once it had turned into pulp place your art shirt on and start mixing it with the egg beater/ potato masher.
Keep doing that until it looks kinda sired up and it should look like soup.
Next when you have finished stirring grab the big container and place the pulp into the container.
After doing that get the bucket that had the pulp in it and fill with cold water. Fill the container a couple of times.
Get your Deckle, Mould and Screen and put them together. They are kinda like a puzzle. If it is on probably it should make a click.
After you finished putting the set together your can dip the Set while holding onto it.
Once you think you have scooped enough paper leave it to drip dry.
When that is happening get a cloth and take the deckle off of the Set.
Grab the mould and the screen together and place it on the cloth Mesh
Take the mould off.
Get the sponge and push out lots of water.
Once you think you have pushed out enough water take off the screen.
Finally Get a buddy to  help you take it to a great place to dry.
There you have finished, keep making paper until the container is nearly empty.
Here is all the paper my class made. We have made 106 cards.

Over all making paper was really fun, the process of making this has been really easy and quick. I enjoyed dipping my paper making set and scooping up all the paper. I had dislikes as well, like I didn't enjoy ripping the paper and mixing the paper so it looks like soup.

Lets Travel Around New Zealand: Math Style

Hello blogging world.
Since we have been back at school we haven't been in groups in maths instead we have been doing a set budget travel around New Zealand. We had a set budget of $500 per day which is quite a lot but when you are travelling it isn't as much as you think. We got to select a car, activates and Accommodations. The worst bit was trying to find out the cost of petrol. You also had to choose a plane and a ferry so that you could reach the bottom of New Zealand, from the South to the North. Now I know If I want to travel around Nz this would be the price.  This was so fun I would totally do this again.

My favourite place if I went would be Christchurch because the activities there are really fun. I would only go on a holiday, not live there. As I said before Christchurch had some great activities and my favourite would be Horse trekking both along the beach and in other places  I have done it before and trust me, it is worth the money. My least favourite activity would be the Jazz and Blue Festival the only reason I picked it was because I didn't want to go to the NZ Rugby museum.

Here is my work!

Overall I have really enjoyed this task. The best bit was getting to pick all the activity's because you got to pick what you want but sometimes they had a specific task for activity's so sometimes you couldn't pick the one you want. I learnt that if you want to fly over seas you would need a lot of money to go just around New Zealand. The hardest bit was trying to add all the petrol and the total price. Over all my total price was $4588.1, so if I wanted to travel all over New Zealand for 11 days I would need to save $4588.1. I thought I was going to spend $5000 instead I spent $4588.1, the price difference was $427.9
