The Treaty of Waitangi

Hello, blogging world. On the 6th Of February 1840, a special contract was signed with the English and Maori which was in tribute to them decided to work together and live together. They would not cause any more wars between each other and if they broke it then there would be bad consciences. In this activity, We had to go to a link Click here that was all about the place that the Treaty was signed Waitangi thats why it is called the treaty of Waitangi, and share 3 facts of what tourist can do around and about.

I would like to do this as it is all about Maori Culture and at the same time you get to go in a gaint war Waka and paddle through a water fall!

I would like to go here because at night they have light shows and i have been to one at MOTAT and it was super fun!

Translating Phrases

Hello, blogging world. It is the end of week 1 and I am so excited to see what the team has placed for us the rest of the holidays! In 1840s lots of English Settlers where coming to New Zealand. At the time they nearly Overtook the amount of Maori Settlers. A great war started over the land, and where the other settlers could build houses. Unlike the Maori the English they did not speak Te Rea Maori so we every
they tried to argue none of them knew what that was saying. In the 2000s we have translators and google. For this activity, we have to use google translate to translate the Phares. Here is the original Phares.

Musical Festivals – Matatini

Hello, blogging world. We are now just for a little while become Nicole, Simon, Lewy, and Sharon from X Factor as today we are judging some Kapa Haka dances from the concert  Te Matatini. This years winner was Te Kapa Haka o Whāngārā Mai Tawhiti. As all this performance is from previous years. The groups are called (Videos are linked to the names)Tamatea Arikinui, Te Iti Kahurangi, and Te Puku o Te Ika

The dances were all great but I like Te Puku O Te Ika as they were singing a song that represented a leader and a past family member. Everyone's voices were in tune too. I did also really enjoy the Tamatea Arikinui group as they were singing and dancing. The girls pois would swing around their arm but they would recover smoothly. I didn't enjoy the group Te Iti Kahurangi as they had a weird layout and they put weird instruments with other instruments it just sounded awkward.

Playing Games

Hello, blogging world. For this activity, we had to look at a website that had four games (Here are the links) Poi Rakau, Ki O Rahi, Koruru and Poi Toa. Then out the 4, we had to choose one. Doing that we had to find out the name of the game, The purpose, and two rules. I have chosen Poi Rakau as it looked fun and I would enjoy to play it with my friends. Here is a video of how to play.

Poi Rakau is called Poi Raku. The aim of the game is to try to reach the next Rakau without it falling. You can step back but that would make it harder for you and everybody else. You are not allowed to dig it into the ground if so you are out. 1 person will be in the middle calling out instruction like "Go Right" or "Go Left"! but in Maori. they could add moves like Leg lift and he could add "Go right but do a Leg Lift and Clap before the Rakau falls"! In this list, I have played 2 of the game which are... Koruru and Poi Toa. Koruru is also known as knuckle bones. You chuck 5 rocks (The same size) in the air and try to catch them on the back of your hand, then you would need to flip it over onto your palm without dropping it. With Poi Toa it is kinda like a dance you make a Poi and normally they are used for dance. I did this in kindergarten and that was so fun.

The Waiata - A Song in Your Heart

Hello, blogging world. It is day 4 and today is all about music. Today we had to find a Waiata online and show why we liked it. I looked through many but the first one I saw was awesome it was called... Taku Rākau, Haramai a Paoa. It was so lovely and nice because both male and female had to perform the song and the video was performed in a crowd of people. Here is my song.

As  I said before the song is nice and lovely. The song is about going to war,m fighting to save this country and being confident. These peoples voices are so nice together it looked like they practiced a lot. I also found another one which sounds great it is recorded in someone house and it sounds as good as the Female and Males. Here is the Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKpPRWa4rQA . The song is very bold and gentle at the same time.

Fun Family Facts - Bonus Activity

Hello, blogging world. This Activity is all about our family. Every family is special in a different because they have different people in it. We had to ask three family member what their favourites things to do in the summer are. I asked my parents and one of my best friends here it is!

Mum
My Mum is a nice and caring woman. She has two kids, a lovely husband and a lazy dog. She would always be there for me and even treats my friends like her children. Let's see what she said?
1. My Mums love being warm because in New Zealand doesn't get hot often so when it is summer she loves it!
2. She also loves to hang out with her family. She likes to chill or go to the beach with them well, just anyway she can hang out with them.
. Dad
My dad is a hugging monster. Whenever you least expect it you see a face coming towards you and the next moment you are in the hugging trap of my dad. Let's See what he said?
1.In the summer my dad loves to watch cricket. Ethier if it is on tv or if he is in a stadium, it's his perfect day of how to spend the day with his friends.
2. I know this might sound funny but in the summer he also likes to play cricket... who was expecting that!

Amie
Amie is one of my best friends and she will always be but she is tied with my other friend Ashana. Amie has chickens and loves them! Let's see what she said?
1. In the summer she loves to play with her chickens. So cute!
2.She also likes to talk and talk to friends (Like me and Ashana). What A Chatterbox!

This is everything I found out. Most of this's facts are ones I didn't even know. Thank for viewing this blog post. If you would like to see more of my scroll down. Please feel free to comment anywhere on my blog. I will see you in my next blog post until then... BYE!

The More, the Merrier? - Activity 1 Day 3

Hello, blogging world. Today is day 3 of the summer learning journey. I am so happy I made it through 3 days! In the 1800s most families were very big. It is very normal that the parents would have Seven to Nine Children, imagine having 8 or 6 siblings your house would be really messy. Today activity is we have to imagine we have nine siblings in the 1800s. I wouldn't even make a day. Here is some reason why I would like to have a big family but not at the same time.

1. Having a big family would mean you won't get your own room plus, you would be sharing with at least 2 other people. In my house, you would have to share. 3/4 rooms would have two people in it but the 1/4 room would have 3 that is crazy!

2.As having a big family would be a lot arguing but from that you would have a couple of friends to live through each day.

3. My parents would not be able to handle it.

4. If some of your siblings are a year behind you they could be in the same class as you!

Waka Ama - Bonus Activity

Hello, blogging world. This is another activity I have not done which is called Waka Ama. To this day lots of people still use waka like in the Waka Ama where teams of six people go and compete to win in races. Both boys and girls can enter. In this activity, we have to watch a short video here and share why or why not we would want to be in it.

I would not want to compete in the Waka Ama as you would have to be able to row very fast and your team depends on you so if you do one little mistake you would fail your whole team. In some parts of this, I would be good like fitting in there as a am tiny but then again I would just be rocking side by side. I would think I would do well as a team and with training because with training you get better and working with a team they would keep encouraging you and they won't be as mad as your manager.
But, I love if I was a commentator and if it was just English because you get to have fun explaining the sport and not actually do the sport, plus you get paid for it.

Special Meals - Bonus Activity

Hello, blogging world. As for yesterday, I didn't complete this activity so I am doing it now anyway, back in the 1800s, most Maoris had a simple diet like fish and kumara as they did not have supplies to the store. Luckily in June 1958, they brought them to New Zealand and now we get all kinds of things. We don't just have supermarkets to get food from we have... Restaurants, Stalls, Vending machine and lots more. For this activity we have to show our favorite food and why it is? We could also add a recipe if we wanted to.

I love homemade bread roll especially the ones my dad makes. They are so soft and yummy to eat and with this, you can put cheese and things on top of the bread roll to give it that yummy taste and to make it look pretty. I also enjoy bread rolls because they can act as... Sandwiches and burgers! Here is a recipe of how to make it ( it the recipe my dad uses to make it) Click here!

Activity 2: The Rules of Engagement/ Day 2 Of The Summer Learning Journey!

Hello, blogging world. Today For the summer learning journey we had to draw a photo of us doing our dream job. The job was so fun because I like to draw but I didn't colour because I don't enjoy colouring this because that would have taken to long I wonder if you can guess what it is here are some clues
1.It is designing
2. It uses math
3. It is written on the paper.
Good luck guessing!

If you didn't guess I want to be an Architect.
I want to be one because I think it would be using my digital skills and mathematical skills. I think I would suit right in for this job because I love math, I am good at using computers and have engined before/ building things before. I know I am good at computers because I got a steam award and prize.

A House Or A Home? Day 2

Hello, blogging world. We made it through a day now it is time to do day 2. In the olden days, people of New Zealand didn't live in normal houses. They lived in a house called... wharepuni. Here is a short description of what a traditional one is. On a traditional, it has a thatched roof and walls made of timber, ferns, rushes, and bark. Each part of the house represent things like at the end of the roof they are the hands.
For this activity we had to describe the difference with our house we normally sleep, eat and play in and a photo of a wharepuni (Down Below) Here is my work.

Similar
 1. It is a house and with both of this's you can live, sleep and eat in it

2.My house relates to this because I have a small porch at the front which has the front door on it.

Difference
1.The difference with them is that on this building it has lots of faces and a story behind everyone.
2. My house is also two story and it is a suburban house, it has a steep driveway and it doesn't have a lot of patterns (Tukutuku Panels and Kahawai Patterns)

Setting Sails/ Day 1 Of The Summer Journey

Dear Amie,
The nights are horrible and cold but it won't stop me from trying to get to this small country called New Zealand. I have been running out of food but then recently I found a container of bait and a fishing rod, since then every day I have been fishing and stirring the waka. I am super excited to find my self in New Zealand because I have never been to another country but I am sure I will be interested in the surroundings and to see the people. The ride is bumpy but I will make it.

... Anyways Amie,
How is your trip scary, fun, are you already there. Send me a letter, please! (Click her name)

Hello blogging world, I know this is a weird layout for the blog today but I wanted it to be different anyway, in this activity, we had to create a little to our friend that would describe A boat trip to New Zealand on a Waka! Amie is one of my friend who is also doing this you should go see her blog with her letter. Thank you, everybody, for reading this blog post. If you would like to see more of my work scroll down. The First Settlers/ Day 1 Of The Summer Learning Journey.

Hello Blogging World, As you all know we have started the holidays but my school still has one day left. Due to that Waikowhai Primary and the Ako Hiko Area have started the Summer Learning Journey. If you didn't see my last blog about this then here is some basic and quick information, The summer learning journey is a program that keeps your knowledge up through the school holidays. This times theme is... Drumroll.... Time Tavel! We are doing 1800 - 1870 so not very long but this only last four weeks (A month).

As part of today, we read one of the many stories from Maui, Maui and the Gaint Fish. We need to tell three facts that we knew or learned from the story.

I have read many of the Maui stories with my teacher and my class but I cant share all of them. My favorite one would probably Be Maui and the sun because it showed some very important time and it made me think "Hmm, so are daylight saving when he is pushed down harder (to the ground) or when he free himself a little bit". Also to celebrate the book we did some art and the middle school did a big painting of Maui holding down the sun which stayed in the corridor for a while. If you haven't read you should, it can also be found here. Here is my work!

Image result for maui moana

  • The FIsh that Maui caught has been made to a remarkable landscape that is part of New Zealand.
  • Maui Never got to go fishing with his brother because his brother thought that he wasn't good and they would make fun of him.
  • When Maui Made it onto the boat and they where far enough Maui jumped out of his hiding spot, while this was happening again his brothers were making fun of him. Soon enough Maui couldn't take the waves of laughter and with anger, he punched his nose, covering the blood all around his fish hook.

Zooming Round The Track!

Hello blogging world, this Monday we had a great last week of school. To blast off the week we had a amazing wheels day! In this we got to bring our wheels to school, Go down the slip'n slide, Go in the pool and play some games with  the teachers. We dressed in mufti and donated a gold coin. As for the seniors we got spilt into three groups for the rotation. This was another very successful fun day. Here are some photos.

The Seniors went in the pool/water
slide first and it was super fun sliding down the slip'n slide. I got to slide down with Room Hauraki  teacher and when I went on my tummy at the bottom the water slide was used as a ramp and I lunged into the air. In the pool though it wasn't as fun because we just splashed boys with water then they would do it back. It was really fun when we went to do the wheels because I rode my roller blades and got to ride one of my friends bike with my other friends. I competed in the race on the bike and I came 3rd out 4 people but then I didn't know where we where biking so I basically lost. Just before getting onto our wheels we played some games with the teachers there was... Capture the flap, T-ball and just relaxing

Dance and Music!

Hello blogging world. This year is my last year at primary and I am really sad. Today I am sharing something I really loved about this year it was when we did Dance and Music. In this we got spilt up into three groups and then from that three group we had to pick a group of students to dance with. We first went onto a slideshow one of the teacher prepared and on there was different dances, different moves and two songs. There was a slow song and there was a move upbeat tune to the other songs. We had to pick one of the songs and make a dance to it. We had 3 weeks to practice until we had to preform in front of every group. If you were one of the top five you could have done your dance in assembly. Here is my groups dance! (I am sorry if you cant view it)

In this dance i really like doing the dance with my group. We made it to the assembly but we made a lot of mistakes. The easy part was preforming in front of everybody because we were very confident with out dance but coming up with the moves were really hard because we didn't know what to do.

Thank you everybody for reading this blog post. If you would like to see more of my work scroll down. Please feel free to comment anywhere on my blog. I will see you in my next post until then... Bye!

Lets Think About Our Gala Day

Hello blogging world, in the weekend Waikowhai Primary School ad there very first Gala day. Every class made a product and had to learn a cultural dance. As I said Manukau made paper. After the day we did some thinking hats to describe the positives, negatives, our feelings and what we would change. In the Gala day we had bouncy castles, food, products, dances and games. Here is my slideshow to show my thinking about the day.

I really enjoyed the day. The slide was hard because at times I wrote the sames things on the slides. The easy part was thinking about the red and whites hats but the-hard bit was the green and blue hats because I wrote the sames on each slide. I have learnt that it was really hard to be creative with the green and blue hat. Maybe next time I will add more photos and more detail about the day. Over all the day was great I am exited to come back next year!

I really hope you enjoy this blog post. I am really sorry that it was so short. If you would like to see more of my learning scroll down. Please feel free to comment anywhere on my blog. I will see you in my next post until then... BYE!

Today I am travelling around the world. We had to pick a place we wanted to travel to and give at least 2 reasons of why you wanted to go there. I have picked England. As England is a very far way to go the temperatures are even and in the winter it snows. I would love to see Buckingham Palace and maybe even meet the royal family. I would love to see or even maybe go on the London eye too. The sights are so pretty there and on the list that we got to pick out of (Canada, Japan, Australia, Chile, Germany, Mexico, South Africa, Malaysia and United Arab Eremite) that could speak English so I know what they are saying. It would be so cool to have a cup of tea in England... Where t was made.

Overall I think England is a great pick I cant wait to "Travel" there. I think that I would really enjoy going there when I am older.
